The Next iPhone

Despite my previous post outlining a bit of dissatisfaction with the iPhone, I still think that Apple has the best thing going in smartphones. I am bullish on Android but I don't think it is quite there yet; there is no one single product that is comprehensively better than the iPhone in my mind.

While the rumor mill is focused on an Apple tablet, I remain more interested in what Apple has in store for the next generation iPhone. I decided to write up my wish list for comparison when the thing actually comes out.

Hardware Requests
  • Better resolution screen
  • 802.11n wireless
  • USB 3.0
  • 32 GB and 64 GB versions
  • Faster processor and more RAM
Software Requests
  • Native to-do syncing with iCal (still not there after three iterations?)
  • Message flagging in the Mail app (unbelievable that this is still not included)
  • Wireless iTunes syncing
  • Implement some limited multitasking for third-party apps
  • Allow the use of a Bluetooth keyboard
Business Model Requests
  • Sell an unlocked iPhone in the U.S., even if it is way expensive
  • Get rid of the AT&T exclusivity but don't take the iPhone away from AT&T
  • Approve Google Voice in the App Store
